"...and for a new English band did rather well across the pond."

Lets Dive Deeper!

"As seems to be the case, I came across this song years after its original release in 1985. I seem to remember that it was on a compilation CD, although which one, I’ve not got a clue. One thing that I do remember however is that it was the tune that piqued my interest, being a superb fusion of pop/soft rock that ear-wormed it’s way in deep.

As a typical teenager, I played little attention to the meaning of the lyrics, and it was only about a decade later that I realised that they weren’t as sweet and innocent in connotation as I believed at the time, although that sentence can be levelled at a multitude of songs in fairness.

The song itself was taken from their 1985 debut album ‘Play Deep’, and for a new English band did rather well across the pond reaching the top 10 of the Billboard charts. In fact, most of The Outfield’s success was America based, and they received very little attention from home shore audiences. Doing some research on them, it seems that they temporarily disbanded in the mid 1990s before reforming about a decade later. Founding member John Spinks died in 2014 which led to the permanent ending of the band."
