"I was about ten years late to the party I must confess, but when I finally got bitten by the Rush bug... boy was I bitten big time! From a standing start, I picked up their entire catalogue as it was at the time (on vinyl) in a matter of months, and then immersed myself in a thrilling, constantly shifting maelstrom of moods and emotions. Yes, Geddy Lee's vocals were something of an acquired taste back then (although now I couldn't countenance anyone else singing these songs), but the vast sonic landscapes it punctuated is probably what kickstarted my love of all things progressive metal.

Inspired by Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poetic machinations on Kubla Khan - the first emperor of the Yuan Dynasty in 13th century China - this blistering eleven minute epic has stood the test of time without flinching, and to this day remains my go to Rush track. Not many tracks get away with a five minute instrumental meandering before the vocals kick in, but as always, the Rush trio nail it beautifully. 

Their vast back catalogue is littered with classics and I could have easily picked any one of them, but this, the standout track from my favourite Rush album ('A Farewell To Kings') really is the icing on a truly sumptuous cake!"
