"I'll be honest, when this song first hit the airwaves in 1989 (I was fifteen at the time), I absolutely couldn't stand it. That twangy intro set my teeth on edge, Anthony Corder's high-pitched wail felt like nails down a blackboard, and even the black and white video (reportedly the first from Memphis to get an MTV airing, though that's since been disputed) properly wound me up. God knows why, but everything about it grated on me.

Age has a funny way of softening you up on these things. Now I actually rate it, and I'd never have admitted that as a fifteen-year-old. The blues running through those melodies, and the guitar work between Corder and Keith Douglas, is really good, better than a lot of what else was clogging up the airwaves from that scene at the time. It only scraped to number 86 on the Billboard Hot 100 (25 on the Mainstream Rock chart), and never so much as dented the UK charts, which frankly feels like a crime.

I've had a few goes at the rest of their catalogue over the years and none of it has ever grabbed me in the same way, it just doesn't land. This one song did, though, and I couldn't tell you why to save my life. Still good to know Tora Tora are out there plugging away all these years later, doing their thing."
