"There are always songs that, even decades after their original release, make you think, 'Why on earth wasn't this a huge hit?' This, a track lifted from Northern Irish band Mama's Boys' 1987 album 'Growing Up the Hard Way' was certainly one of those. 

Originally inspired by the likes of Horselips, Mama's Boys were built around the three McManus brothers Pat, John and Tommy. Their early sound was a rambunctious mix of Blues and Classic Rock, but with the addition of Airrace vocalist (and one time Cliff Richard backing singer) Keith Murrell, they transformed into something altogether slicker and smoother. 

The key to any great song is a hook that hits from the get go, and boy, does this track have that and then some! As I recall, they did a reworded version called 'Spirit Of America' in a bid to crack the US market, but that kind of fell off the radar almost as soon as it surfaced. Still, this is a timeless piece of songwriting."
