Lets Dive Deeper!

"I remember this song very clearly, as it caused an almighty bust-up with my mum as we argued about the lyrics, well, a specific word in this 1990 release from a US-based Hard Rock band, and there are no surprises for guessing which word it was! I knew it was funk (I had seen the title before hearing the song), but Mum had no clue until I relented and showed her the single cover, although to this day she still maintains that Mr Cherone and co are singing something different. They probably slipped a few "alternative" pronunciations of it to funk with us all!

From that opening pounding bass line and drum combo, to Nuno Bettencourt's amazing guitar playing, the solo still rocks, even 36 years later, and was rightly hailed by Sir Brian May as being "a landmark in rock history!" The song still captivates. Once it's in your head, you're not getting it out without one hell of a fight!

After hearing it, I rushed out to get the album on cassette from our local Virgin music shop and played the bugger to death! It's one of the few albums I have had to replace due to overplaying. It still gets its fair share of airtime in our house, and, for me, is the best album that they have ever released."
