Dark, dramatic and wonderfully immersive, Frisson Noir sees Tarja return to metal with renewed fire and confidence. Blending cinematic orchestration, crushing guitars and moments of haunting beauty, the album feels both grandiose and deeply personal. Her unmistakable voice moves effortlessly from fragile introspection to operatic power, while the songwriting embraces a heavier, more adventurous direction than much of her recent work. The result is an ambitious and emotionally rich collection that reminds listeners exactly why Tarja remains one of symphonic metal's most respected figures.
THE SONGS
The epic "At Sea" is the album's defining moment, a sweeping ten-minute masterpiece that balances orchestral splendour with genuine emotional depth and has already been hailed by fans as one of Tarja's greatest solo songs. "Blaze Forever" turns up the intensity with muscular riffs, relentless energy and one of the album's most immediate choruses, while "The Trace Outlives" enchants with its blend of delicate melodies, soaring arrangements and striking use of the Japanese shamisen. Elsewhere, "The Eternal Return" delivers pure symphonic metal magic, "Leap Of Faith" reunites Tarja with Marko Hietala to stirring effect, and "Tango", featuring Apocalyptica, offers a darkly seductive fusion of cello-driven power and operatic drama.
