This is a tremendous album that has everything. Every track has catchy melodies, great vocals and sublime guitar work.

Child sits in front of an old house under a stormy sky. Text: "THIS HOUSE WE BUILT" and "GET OUT OF THE RAIN." Moody and eerie.

This House We Built hail from Scarborough, UK, and the band members are Scott Wardell (lead vocals, guitar), Chris Mayes (drums), Wayne Dowkes White (bass), and Andy Jackson (guitars, vocals). Wardell has written the song lyrics and the rest of the band have also contributed on the musical side. This is their second album and all the songs were produced, recorded and mixed by Dave Boothroyd at 6dB Studios, York and mastered by Sam Proctor. The last few years have seen them supporting Danny Vaughn, Nazareth, Kira Mac, Cassidy Paris and Tyketto at various festivals and music venues, resulting in a very good fan following.

‘Rain’ kicks the album off. With a moody riff it has lovely harmonies on the very infectious chorus. The heavy ‘Addiction’ follows, and Wardell’s quasi singing is perfect for this track that has a stunning guitar solo. ‘Broken Dreams’ is a heavy song with a fantastic melody, whilst ‘Desires’ slows the tempo down a shade, but has a kick-ass chorus. ‘Coming Home To You’ is a power ballad with an ear worm melody. Following on with a very catchy riff is ‘Crash N Burn’. Sounding a bit like Shinedown from a few years ago, the band are on fire. Wardell’s vocals are superb.

‘It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll’ is everything you want in a Classic Rock tune with brilliant guitar work, superb vocals, a sing-a-long chorus and a fantastic riff. Meanwhile, the up-tempo rocker ‘Wheels’ has terrific performances from the whole band. ‘Better Man’ has a Foo Fighters/Shinedown vibe to it, whilst ‘One By One’ is a mid-tempo song that will sound huge on the radio; it is a perfect candidate to be released as a single. The last track is ‘Drifter’, which is a slow burner. It is the perfect track to end the album with.

This is a tremendous album that has everything. Every track has catchy melodies, great vocals and sublime guitar work. Even though I am only listening to a stream of the album on my laptop, the mix and production sound enormous.

I strongly recommend this sophomore album to everybody who love their music, both heavy and melodic.
