Two men stand in a green field with red flowers, looking thoughtful. The sky is cloudy, creating a calm and serene atmosphere.

Founded by multi-instrumentalists Nicolò and Federico Vese, Italian progressive metal duo Asymmetric Universe has carved out a distinct space in the modern instrumental scene with a sound that seamlessly blends the aggressive intensity of metal with the rich harmonies and improvisational spirit of jazz fusion. Having emerged from a shared passion for composition and sonic exploration during their intense period of musical study nearly 10 years ago, the band now are set to release their debut album, A Memory And What Came After, via InsideOutMusic, on the 29th August 2025.

With less than a month to go before the album is released, the band have launched the track ‘Feather On A Glass’,

The band comments: “'Feather On A Glass' is meant to be a simple but really impactful song. All the sections are quite straightforward with no crazy time changes, yet each of them are really precise about the feeling they want to convey. It goes from heavy riff to chill and emotional verses and choruses, with the solo as the tip of the climax. “Try to sweep away your thoughts gently, like a feather on a glass” that’s what meditation teaches you and in this song you can feel the turmoil of heavy thoughts represented by the heavy riff while the rest of the song is “lighter” and emotional, representing the hard path of trying to be more conscious of your feelings and thoughts."

The band’s previous single, ‘Coquelicot’ - featuring Haken’s Richard Henshall, can be heard here: https://youtu.be/Y-pGQPi2Jyw

The band’s upcoming full-length album, which they started work on in late 2023, reflects a refined vision and deeper maturity. “We have grown a lot since then, both as artists and as human beings,” says Federico. “We always liked to blend genres… and we believe that now we have reached a clear vision of the balance of these genres.”

Earlier work often fused genres section-by-section, but now, with more confidence, the duo began each track with hybrid intentions, resulting in a more cohesive and expressive sound. “All the different arrangements and melodies are working together towards the same goal: convey the message and feeling that was at the base of each song,” Federico adds.

Their latest work features saxophone prominently, a decision inspired in part by a BILMURI live show. “We always loved adding trumpets and saxophones… In this album we changed again the balance with these instruments, focusing on saxophone as we felt it was fitting perfectly with the vibe of the album,” says Federico.
