After the surprise release of the album Runaway Men in 2022, followed by a series of concerts in 2023, Bart, Ard, Niels and Nils sat together. Runaway Men consisted of the recordings they made in 1997, just before parting ways. They hadn’t worked together for more than 25 years, but the warm reception of their 1997 work sparked new curiosity and motivation. What would happen if they wrote new music together, more than 100 years of individual musical development ánd life experience later…? They decided to roll the bones and see what would happen.
And now after working in the shadows, slowly but with determination, the first new born single is allowed to see the light of day. 19 December 2025 the song This Is Who We Are is a starting point of a new era in the life of Galaxy.
This is Who We Are started out as a statement for where the band was at in the year 2025, but it gradually evolved into something much more, also reflecting the status of society and mankind in a rapidly changing world.
GALAXY BIO
It might be one of the weirder stories in the Dutch musical landscape. Starting out at a very young age in 1983 by playing simple rock ‘n roll songs, Galaxy evolved into one of the promising prog bands from the north of the Netherlands, but sadly dissolved after 14 years in 1997, having released lots of demotapes, singles and a Mini CD along the way. They even had an entire album on the shelf, but because there was little interest at that time for prog music in the Netherlands and they couldn’t get a record deal, all bandmembers went their separate ways.
Fast forward to 2017: After Bart Schwertmann joined the legendary Dutch progband Kayak as their leadsinger, people started taking interest once again in the story of Galaxy. Independent record label Shaded Moon Entertainment got hold of some rough mixes of the old recordings and immediately decided they wanted to release the 1997-recordings as an album and in 2022 it at last saw the light of day. Runaway Men was the new invented title; a wink to the fact that bandmembers went their separate ways for 25 years, while also referring to the last song on the album, Runaway Man. The response was overwhelmingly positive and the four members decided to perform the album live. In 2023 they did a series of concerts, and after that decided to once again collaborate on new music, keen and excited to see what could come out of it; more than 100 years of individual musical and life experience after their last recording.
