After a year marked by rising acclaim and a wave of momentum, Swedish AOR/Classic Rock band Daytona returns with a powerful new release. The band’s latest single and music video, a bold and emotional reinterpretation of Pat Benatar’s iconic hit “Love Is a Battlefield”, is officially out across all digital platforms.
With their trademark blend of catchy melodies and powerful Rock energy, Daytona reimagines the timeless 80s classic into a contemporary Melodic Rock anthem. This stand-alone single highlights the band’s ability to honour Rock legends while crafting a fresh, emotionally charged sound that speaks to the Melodic Rock, Hard Rock and AOR generations.
The release follows the success of Daytona’s critically acclaimed debut album Garder La Flamme (released in October 2024), which earned glowing reviews for its refined songwriting, top-tier production, and heartfelt tribute to the golden era of 80s rock. The album firmly established Daytona as one of the most exciting new names on the Scandinavian melodic rock scene.
In the months since, the band has impressed both audiences and critics with a string of energetic live performances, including a standout set at Malmö Melodic 2025. Their growing impact was further recognised with a nomination for “Breakthrough of the Year” at the prestigious Rocknytt Awards, confirming their status as rising stars in the genre.
Johan Berlin explains: “I lived a few years in California, growing up as a young teenager. This was when MTV was still young in 1984. Pat Benatar released Love is a Battlefield in September 1983, I moved to the US with my family in January 1984, so the song was still on heavy rotation. I remember being mesmerised by the song, the driving beat and the very cool video!
I think I always had a special relationship with that song, and I instantly knew that it would make a fantastic AOR-song as well. The original version is very repetitive, so the challenge for us was to make it a bit more dynamic, but still keep true to the original. In my opinion, we succeeded!”
Now, with “Love Is a Battlefield,” Daytona takes the next step in their musical journey, paying homage to one of rock’s most iconic voices while infusing the track with their own identity and emotion. This new single marks a transition point, as the band begins work on their highly anticipated second full-length album, promising more original music on the horizon.
