SYMPHONY X - CHURCH OF THE MACHINE
Dave says, "I can remember the exact moment I first heard Symphony X (and Startovarius for that matter as it was the same day). It was one rather dull Saturday morning in April 1996, and I'd just taken a punt on three albums that sounded interesting from a mail order company I'd started dealing with after Shades went bust. Said three - the first two Symphony X albums and 'Episode' from Stratovarius - landed with a thud as the postman slung them through our letterbox, and appetite duly whetted, I took them post haste to the CD player for further investigation. For some reason, I chose to play the second Symphony X album first and was blown away at the raging mix of riffs, keys and melodies. Became a fan right away and have followed them ever since, even seen them a couple of times. This track, lifted from the fourth album 'Twilight In Olympus', has always been a bit of a go-to for me and is usually the one I use to introduce anyone who hasn't heard the sonic majesty of the band before... ostentatious but never overbearing, the Metal might and symphonic grandeur are just perfect!"
