ROY ORBISON - I DROVE ALL NIGHT
Pete says: "The world truly lost a legend when the wonderful Roy Orbison passed away in 1988. He possessed a unique voice that still thrills and excites me even to this day. I must admit that I grew to love more of his later work than his earlier stuff, including what I believe is the definitive version (Sorry, Cindy and Celine) of ‘I Drove All Night’.
Released posthumously in 1991, this song not only showcased Orbison’s voice at its best, but the feeling in it just floods out. Songs have to form an emotional connection, and this one did with a seventeen-year-old me. I was mesmerised by the tone of his voice. It still sends chills down my spine when I hear it today.
I know that there have been several other versions released, but this one is the only one worth listening to! It’s just awesome. RIP Roy."
