Lets Dive Deeper!
How could anyone not like this version of Slade's classic? It's got more cheese than Morrisons, the vocals are so terrible they're great, the video is typical 80's schlock, but it's wonderful! God bless Quiet Riot, and the legend is that they didn't even want to do it in the first place, but were forced by their management, so they decided to do the worst cover they could, and, of course, as sod's law would have it, it went to number five on the Billboard Hot 100, helping their Metal Health album become a number-one hit! Those are the breaks, I guess!
With the original being released a year before I was born, and despite trying, I've never really got into Slade, it was this version of the song that I grew up with. Released in 1983, it was a fun, high-octane, balls-to-the-wall cover that we sadly miss these days. Of course, the over-the-top video helped, but it was the delivery of singer Kevin DuBrow that made this version so memorable. Like I said before, so bad, it's brilliant!
I do wonder what the original guitarist, Randy Rhoades, would have brought to this remake. However, he left in 1979 to join Ozzy Osbourne's band and sadly died just before Quiet Riot reformed after a three-year hiatus, but Carlos Cavazo did a pretty decent job.
