Words Of Wisdom!
Returning with her eleventh studio album, the lush voice of Robin Beck reaches our ears once more, and shows that she has lost none of her smooth style after nearly a ten-year absence between albums. Co-writing the songs alongside her husband James Christian, Tommy Denander, and a host of quality songwriters, she delivers ten velvety Melodic Rock tracks that certainly make this a very desirable listen.
The standout title track blows the doors wide open, and it’s a great high-tempo rocker with some defiant flipping-the-bird lyrics, which Beck spits out with aplomb. ‘Love And Money’ soars into life and, accompanied by some superb earworm riffs, she reminds you just how dynamic her voice still is as she nails each delivery. ‘Trouble Or Nothing’ is another slice of well-done Melodic Rock and completes a very pleasing trio of opening songs.
Slowing the tempo down, ‘What A Night’ develops into a lovely ballad, enhanced by the delicious cadence within Beck’s voice. ‘Karma’ sees a more Pop-infused sound creeping in, but it works, and it’s a toe-tapping four minutes. ‘Never Gonna Let You Go’ starts slowly but builds up nicely to deliver a mid-tempo piece showcasing vintage Beck.

A rocking riff, courtesy of Christan, opens the wonderfully named ‘Na Na Na’, and it’s defiant Beck once again, taking no prisoners with the lyrics and infectious melodies. This style is the kind of song where Beck really excels and is another standout amongst many quality moments.
‘Voodoo’ brings in some electronic Funk to go alongside its Pop underbelly, and overall, it sounds decent. I think with Beck’s voice, it could have hit a little harder, but music is about experimentation, and there are some superb guitars throughout, so it does just stay on the right side of the Melodic Rock spectrum.
We are back in familiar territory with ‘Don’t Tempt Me’, and it’s another slice of heavenly soft Melodic Rock pie, delivered in style by an artist who knows her trade inside out and is comfortable delivering it. The longest track on the album, ‘Let It Rain’, clocks in at just over five minutes, and it’s left until last. It’s an absolute gem of a track, which, without doubt, is Beck releasing plenty of pent-up emotions, giving the listener an unrestrained, resoundingly felt gut punch, and it’s marvellous!
