THE REVIEW
Words Of Wisdom!
Ricky Warwick solo albums have always been a bit hit or miss for me, but this one ticks a lot of boxes. Starting off with the first single ‘Fire & Vengeance’ is a masterstroke, as it’s a great song with a Thin Lizzy feel to it. ‘Hellbent & Heaven Sent’ is Hard Rock and veers more towards The Almighty style, which is no bad thing.
‘Seek Zen Destroy’ is okay but lacks a bit of something and I’m hearing an eighties INXS. Next up is the ballad ‘When The King Dies’ with acoustic background guitar and works quite well. I believe Phil Collen and Doug Aldrich play on the album, but I’m not sure which tracks they’re involved with. ‘You Just Lie’ has a flurry of guitar and is sung in an eighties’ style, while ‘The Angel’s Share’ has a good flow in an American style, reminiscent of something Tom Petty would sing.

‘Last Chance To Dance’ is a good Thin Lizzy style rocker and ‘Sweet County Down’ is an acoustic Country song (homeland tribute?). ‘Tumbleweed Town’ again displays the Lizzy comparisons with some nice driven guitar.
‘If You Think Your Country Needs You…’ is another ballad with forceful guitars and a great solo, and feels like it’s trying to be the album’s epic song. Last is the bonus track, and ‘Never In Doubt’ is a Country Rock song and feels like a bit of a filler.
"‘Tumbleweed Town’ again displays the Lizzy comparisons with some nice driven guitar."
It’s a decent effort and there’s not a bad song on the album, which is full of varied styles. Recommended if you already like Ricky Warwick or Thin Lizzy, or indeed you just like a good Rock album.
