THE REVIEW
Words Of Wisdom!
I saw James Bruner supporting Orianthi recently – he was a loud-trousered rocker with real impudence and an energy to match and almost stole the show. This music is another reason why.
It begins with the power poppy ‘Show Me The Way’, and there’s that sticky-floored early eighties Trash Rock with ‘Hypnotized’, while ‘SMS’ begins as a baby Undertones but becomes a scuzzy rocker with a skewed electric joanna and an intention to be a good boy.
"he was a loud-trousered rocker with real impudence and an energy to match and almost stole the show."
He even has time for a teary-eyed ballad with lots of piano on ‘Shine’, tries a trouser clenching Falsetto for the Soul Pop of ‘It’s Too Late’, and that’s followed by a dirty bassing and Robbie Williams style chorus of ‘Wish I Could Stay’. If you want simple Party Rock, ‘Getaway’ has got you covered and this excellence finishes with a late-seventies singer/song-writer tune, seen through the prism of modern Pop, ‘Take It Or Leave It’… pretty wonderful.
"and this excellence finishes with a late-seventies singer/song-writer tune"
It’s a crowded marketplace out there and James Bruner is grabbing it by the balls; if he goes on like this, he might have more money to buy big strides and the talent to make them too.
