THE REVIEW
Words Of Wisdom!
Since arriving in 2023 with ‘Hey Living People’, the ascent of this German band has been spectacular. The follow-up ‘The Dead Don’t Die’ stormed its way into the Top 10 in the German official charts in 2024, and there is no reason why ‘Night Is Calling’ won’t do the same, because, to put it simply, it’s sublime from start to finish!
Dr Dead, aka Felix Heldt (vocals) and his zombies, Tommy Kemp (guitars), Patient 0 (bass), and Victor Hilltop (drums), are back to keep you ghoulishly entertained! There is plenty of progression in both subject matter and musicality, which elevates this album to a new level.
‘The Circus Is In Town’ opens, bringing a familiar tune into play, winding itself around a hypnotic, melodic musical frame, which burrows deep into your psyche. Heldt’s vocals are superb, and the transitions between light and shade in his voice are delectable to hear.

The rapid pace continues with ‘Doctor Doctor’, which shows that confidence has visibly increased within the ranks. It’s a more melodic and expressive composition that perfectly explores what the band is capable of. The contagious songs persist, and ‘Children Of The Night’ and ‘Nosferatu’ prove that zombies aren’t the only nasties of the night that Dominum can turn into awesome tracks!
‘Dark Melodies’ slows down the speed, but not the quality, with Heldt showing his range of vocal cadence in a song that you will have on repeat! Marina La Torraca from Finnish Power Metal band Battle Beast adds her talents to the title track, and the fusion of the two is just amazing. Another historical malevolent pops up in ‘Jack The Ripper’, and this killer piece alone proves the naysayers wrong: Dominum are not just a one-trick zombie pony! Next up is Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, and they put their own spin on it, producing a unique version that remains faithful to the original.
Three original compositions remain, before the acoustic versions of ‘Hey Living People’, and, ‘Don’t Get Bitten By The Wrong Ones’; they are all brilliantly menacing in tone and instantly catchy in tune, with ‘Devil’s Son’, ‘I Don’t Drink Wine’, and ‘Endzeit’ fusing the right amount of humour and horror in epic Dominun style! Please, don’t ever stop!

To do it once is excellent, twice is glorious, but to pull off the treble is pure genius! Take a bow, Dominum, you deserve it!
